About
Xense Robotics (Xense Robotics Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.) was founded on May 17, 2024 in Minhang, Shanghai, focused on multimodal tactile perception and intelligence for fine robot manipulation. Founder Ma Daolin is one of the most technically capable scientists in tactile perception today: trained in theoretical and applied mechanics at Peking University with a PhD in 2015, he did postdoctoral research from 2016 at MIT's Mcube Lab (the birthplace of GelSight vision-based touch technology), and in 2021 joined Shanghai Jiao Tong University's School of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Civil Engineering as a tenured-track associate professor, founding the Perception and Intelligence for Manipulation Lab (holding about 38% personally). Addressing the pain point that traditional tactile sensors only sense pressure distribution with insufficient spatial resolution, Xense's self-developed sensors provide high-resolution 3D force, kinesthesia, slip and other multimodal tactile information; products include high-resolution multimodal tactile sensors and intelligent tactile perception-control modules, with VTLA multimodal control technology (a physics + Transformer vision-touch information fusion framework) closing the loop from perception to control, applied in embodied robots, data collection, advanced manufacturing, smart healthcare, modern logistics and other scenarios. Funding: a tens-of-millions-RMB Angel in October 2024 (led by Hillhouse Ventures, with Plug and Play China and the SJTU Hanyuan Fund following); a tens-of-millions-RMB Angel+ in May 2025 (元禾原点, Gobi Partners, 小苗朗程 and AgiBot); and an RMB 100M-level Pre-A in October 2025 (孚腾资本, Li Auto, 彬复资本, 科实资本, Hillhouse Ventures, 元禾原点 and Gobi Partners).
Technical Approach
Enters the tactile track with 'vision-touch academic pedigree + multimodal fusion': sensor hardware (3D force/kinesthesia/slip) as the base, extending up to VTLA perception-control algorithms to close the 'perceive - decide - manipulate' loop, delivering intelligent modules rather than bare sensors; the shareholder mix spans financial capital (Hillhouse), industry (Li Auto) and ecosystem (AgiBot), binding the demand side of embodied intelligence.
Commercialization(3)
- Products applied in embodied robots, data collection, advanced manufacturing, smart healthcare, modern logistics and other scenarios
- Three rounds completed within a year and a half, with investors including Hillhouse Ventures, AgiBot, Li Auto and 孚腾资本
- Touch is seen as the key modality for humanoid dexterous manipulation; the company occupies the 'tactile awakening' track
Position & Strengths(4)
- Top vision-touch academic lineage: Peking University + MIT GelSight + Shanghai Jiao Tong University
- Hardware differentiation in multimodal 3D force/kinesthesia/slip perception
- VTLA vision-touch fusion control closes the loop from perception to manipulation
- Hillhouse's repeated investments plus industry shareholders like AgiBot and Li Auto binding the demand side
