Agility Robotics was incubated in 2015 out of Oregon State University's Dynamic Robotics Laboratory (DRL); co-founder Damion Shelton serves as CEO and robotics professor Jonathan Hurst as CTO, with long depth in leg dynamics and bipedal locomotion: the bipedal platform Cassie launched in 2017, and Digit, aimed at logistics handling, in 2019. The commercialization path is warehouse-logistics RaaS (Robot-as-a-Service): in June 2024, Digit completed the world's first commercial employment deployment of a humanoid robot at GXO's Spanx warehouse (an hourly-billed RaaS model), running continuously for over a year; confirmed deployment customers include Amazon, Toyota, Schaeffler, GXO, and Mercado Libre, nearly 100 units cumulatively (per early-2026 media reports), with a new Toyota North America (TMMC) agreement signed in February 2026.
